How to Make a No Sew Fleece Tied Hat
When winter rolls around, many people pull out dusty boxes containing gloves, sweaters and hats. While many of these items remain wearable for years, people with children or those following fashion trends may discover that their hats no longer fit one way or another. Others may be prone to losing their winter hats. You may, of course, purchase new hats, or you can save money and exercise your creativity by making no-sew fleece hats. These hats require little skill and time. With a little remnant fleece you can whip up a new hat in an hour or two, and fix your hat problem as soon as you discover it.Instructions
Measure around your head and add 4 inches and then measure from the middle of your forehead to the crown of your head and add 7 inches. For instance, if your head measures 14 inches around, your first measurement will be 18 inches. If it measures 5 inches from forehead to crown, your second measurement is 12 inches.
Draw a rectangle onto your fleece with a ruler and chalk, using the measurements from step 1. In this case, your rectangle will be 18 inches long and 12 inches wide. Cut out the rectangle.
Snip ¼-inch wide, 1-inch long fringes about halfway up the short ends of your fleece. Fold the rectangle over so the fringes meet. Starting at the bottom, tie the first fringe in a double knot with the corresponding fringe beneath it. Tie all of the fringes together this way, creating a fleece tube.
Turn your fleece tube so the edges you didn"t fringe are closest to you. Cut vertically into this end of the tube, creating ¼-inch thick, 2-inch long decorative fringes.
Cut a 1-inch strip of fleece from the remaining fabric. In this case, the strip should also be about 18 inches long. Slip the strip under your fleece tube at the base of the vertical fringes. Gather the fringes together and tie the strip tight, finishing your hat. Put it on and roll the brim up twice to finish.
